Learn how carbon credits are created, how India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) works, what project owners need to check, and how businesses can assess credits responsibly. Start with rules and evidence—not promises of guaranteed income or a fixed credit price.
Carbon Mandi provides educational resources and welcomes enquiries. This page does not certify projects, issue credits, guarantee eligibility or promise buyers, prices or revenue.
Carbon Mandi climate project portfolio
Carbon Mandi works across biomass-to-green hydrogen, industrial textile processing, agricultural bio-pellets, EV charging, plant-based lubricants and industrial hydrogen. These initiatives may create measurable emissions-reduction opportunities when project boundaries, baselines, additionality, monitoring and methodology requirements are established. A project does not automatically generate tradable credits. Credits are offered for sale only after applicable validation, verification and registry issuance are complete.

Potential water, chemical and energy savings in textile operations. Emissions benefits require facility-specific baseline and measured energy and production data.
Potential fossil-fuel substitution in suitable industrial heat applications, subject to biomass accounting, feedstock traceability and combustion performance.
Bio-pellet buyer enquiriesPotential transport electrification benefits depend on grid emissions, charging utilisation, vehicle displacement and an eligible methodology.
Explore MyEVStationPotential lifecycle benefits require product-specific evidence, substitution analysis and independently supportable emissions accounting.
Explore EvolvePotential fuel-switching or process-efficiency benefits require full accounting of production pathway, energy source, transport, storage and displaced fuel.
Carbon-credit buyers, corporates, traders and project developers can register their requirements with Carbon Mandi. Any credits offered will be subject to confirmed availability, programme, project ID, vintage, serial numbers, ownership and registry status. Estimated or unissued reductions are not represented as credits available for purchase.
Start with the basics
A carbon credit is a unit issued under a defined program for a quantified greenhouse-gas reduction or removal. One issued credit commonly represents one metric tonne of carbon-dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e), subject to the program's rules. A credit is not the same as an emissions allowance, and buying a credit is not the same as retiring it to make an offset claim.
A credible project needs an applicable methodology, a defensible baseline, evidence of additionality, monitoring, independent validation or verification where required, and traceable issuance records.

India's CCTS has a compliance mechanism for obligated entities with notified greenhouse-gas-intensity targets, and an offset mechanism through which eligible non-obligated entities may register qualifying project activities under approved methodologies. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) administers the scheme and publishes the procedures and methodologies.
Compliance mechanism
Entities covered by notified targets must meet applicable greenhouse-gas-intensity requirements. Scheme rules govern certificate issuance and surrender against those targets.
Offset mechanism
Non-obligated entities may register qualifying reduction, avoidance or removal activities if they fit a current approved methodology and meet project, validation, monitoring and verification requirements.
BEE's methodology page was marked last updated 7 July 2026 when checked for this resource. It listed 12 approved methodologies, including specified renewable electricity, hydrogen, industrial efficiency, methane, forestry, rice cultivation, compressed biogas and biomass electricity/heat activities. This is not blanket approval for every farm, biomass or hydrogen project. Check the exact methodology scope and latest BEE updates before relying on eligibility.
